Job Openings

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Bookkeeper to assist with the financial management and ongoing accounting services offered to clients at MPK Advisors & CPAs. We serve a range of industries, with specialty in the not-for-profit sector. The job would require recording all financial transactions, including cash payments and receipts, into the correct general ledger accounts and verifying their accuracy; maintaining clean and reconciled accounts monthly; recording payroll transactions, and generating regular financial reports for clients to review. The ideal candidate for this position will have worked as a professional Bookkeeper for a minimum of one year.


FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct reconciliation of all accounts as needed (bank, credit card, loans, etc.)
  • Maintain clients’ general ledger accounts in an accurate, complete, and up-to-date manner
  • Perform all activities related to the accounts payable function including reviewing, coding, and processing payments as needed
  • Perform account receivable functions including invoicing, deposits, collections, and revenue recognition
  • Prepare financial reports through collection, analysis, and summarization of data
  • Interpret and apply accounting policies, rules, and regulations to all work to ensure compliance with applicable standards
  • Observes and adheres to all job safety rules
  • Performs other duties that improve the efficiency of the above processes and procedures
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the President

Education/Certification/License Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Preferred)
  • QuickBooks Online Certified (Preferred)

Work Experience/Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years relevant experience working in accounting and bookkeeping
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficient skills in Intuit QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience with bank reconciliations, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger, including journal entries
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to multi-task, prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed for client on-site meetings and bookkeeping

MPK Advisors & CPAs is seeking an experienced accountant to provide assurance and accounting services for our growing portfolio of clients in the not-for-profit and for-profit business sectors. Experience working with not-for-profit organizations, including churches and parachurch ministries, is preferred. This position will include assuming the role of in-charge auditor on audit engagements and in-charge accountant for compilation and review clients. There will also be responsibility for a variety of accounting, consulting, and other advisory services that we provide to these industries. This will include monthly transaction entry, preparation and review of financial statements, journal entries, and financial reporting to clients. Certain clients will receive financial planning and analysis, including budget management, as well.


FLSA Status: Exempt / Full Time


Key Outcomes: (performance):

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare financial statements and notes, draft audit findings, write audit reports, and develop recommendations
  • Function as in-charge auditor and in-charge accountant for audits, reviews, and compilations projects. Manage a set of ongoing accounting clients as the accountant/advisor
  • Stay current on industry trends, and best accounting and audit practices
  • Facilitating monthly closing procedures to produce financial reports
  • Analyzing complex financial reports and records, and interpreting results to communicate with clients
  • Operate financial planning and analysis software to produce key performance indicator and other financial dashboard reports
  • Making recommendations to clients based on monthly financial statements results of operations, including classifications of transactions and other accounting system improvements
  • Reviewing journal entries of junior accountants to ensure accuracy. Posting complex journal entries.
  • Preparing and reviewing bank reconciliations
  • Preparing budget vs. actual reports and performing variance analysis
  • Assisting with financial audits or other assurance projects as needed for our accounting clients
  • Documenting and monitoring internal controls in support of audit projects
  • Coordinating more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by the President
  • Occasional travel (20-30% time)

Education/Certification/License Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting (minimum)
  • Preferred candidates have a current CPA license.  A master’s degree in an accounting discipline is also preferred.

Work Experience/Qualifications:

  • 3+ years’ experience in financial accounting, auditing, or a combination thereof, preferably in public accounting
  • Strong understanding of accounting concepts, regulations, and internal controls
  • Sound understanding of audit and assurance theories, principles, and practices
  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and techniques
  • Strong interpersonal skills, critical thinking skills, and time management skills
  • Proficient verbal and written communication skills
  • Comfortability working in a collaborative environment
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Use of accounting software, such as Intuit QuickBooks, Sage, Oracle is preferred
  • Use of audit software, such as CCH or Thomson Reuters is preferred
